Under the direct supervision of the Produce Safety Program Manager, the Data Verification Specialist will be responsible for assisting with the entry, verification, and manipulation of data to fulfill the inventory and verification requirements of the WVDA-FDA Produce Safety CAP grant agreement.
This will involve typing and other routine, repetitive, clerical work, as well as phone and in-person interactions with the public.
The Data Verification Specialist must be proficient with the use of Microsoft Excel to aid in organizing, analyzing, and interpreting data related to the Produce Safety Program.
Examples of Work:
Enters (types) data from, scans and saves source documents Reviews entered data to identify errors (duplicates, missing or incorrect information, etc.
) Takes appropriate measures to correct identified errors Works with the Data Entry Specialist to ensure data accuracy and completeness Manages data to identify verified vs.
non-verified growers Manipulates data to generate list of contacts for verification phone calls or site visits Assists with the assignment, tracking, and recording of verification calls and site visits Assists growers in determining their exemption status and completion of exemption application Presents data via Excel tables, charts, graphs Becomes familiar with and uses WinWam software program Maintains essential records Detects hardware malfunctions and notifies supervisor Other duties as assigned Working Conditions:
Office environment; sitting, standing, walking, driving, lifting up to 25 pounds.
Minimal local travel (no overnight) may be requiredKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
General knowledge of business/office procedures, practices, and equipment.
General knowledge of software including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
General knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and mathematics.
Excellent attention to detail skills.
Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with a wide range of people with various functions and levels of authority in a courteous and respectful manner.
Excellent written and oral communications skills.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions and exercise sound judgment.
Qualifications:
Education:
Currently pursuing a high school diploma or college degree in Agriculture, Computer Science, or Business Administration preferred.
Experience:
Part-time or full-time experience in a related field preferred.
Additional Requirements:
Valid driver's license is required.
Satisfactory completion of pre-employment drug testing.
Satisfactory completion of pre-employment law enforcement background investigation, including DMV records.
Must maintain a positive image of the Commissioner, West Virginia Department of Agriculture, and the State of West Virginia.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
